Acts of God

I had written in my diary about my dream of Cebest, my best dog (and not forgetting my ‘BABY’ dog as well, now in my memory as I mentioned Cebest…) In my lifetime, until now, I have two dogs. One is dead, and another one, I do not know what happened to him, but might be dead by now.
Today is Michael Jackson’s first year death anniversary. Many people wondered why God created man. Why God created man and also bring misery to this world by taking the lives of our love ones. This includes my dogs, especially Cebest, since I witnessed his death personally. Is death part of God’s plan or was it the actions of man?
Whenever we have no answers to life, we blame God for ‘things’ that happened. In any situation, people always want to find a scapegoat for whatever things that happened. Nobody wants to be answerable to things that happened to them… Just take the recent Orchard Road flood incident. Many shops and cars would be seeking insurance claims. It was reported in the news that the insurance claims for this incident would be about at least S$6 million and more when more cases are being filed.
Previously insurance companies have “Acts of God” clauses. What is Act of God clause? Act of God also called Act of Nature is an event caused by natural forces without any human interference, and over which an insured party has no control, such as an earthquake, flood, typhoon, hurricane, lightning, volcanic eruption or other convulsion of nature. Acts of God are insurable accidents and valid excuses for non-performance of a contract.
It seems that most insurance companies do not have an “act of God” clause anymore. I have lost touch with the insurance industry! According to the news, it is said that insurance companies would have to compensate for damages filed under “works of nature”. Whether works of nature or acts of God, they are very similar in fact.
According to news, a blocked culvert, a drain that diverts water, caused the flood that submerged Orchard Road in knee-high water. We can see in the photographs above and below, many vehicles were submerged in the water.

When we are talking about people, we have life insurance. When we are talking about car, we have car insurance. Talking about car insurance, Richard and I had an insurance claim before. It was a raining day. We parked our car at the car park. Little do we know that at the time when we returned to drive our car, the windscreen was broken due to a fallen tree branch from above the car. Luckily the car was insured. Although we did not have the lowest auto insurance, we still managed to save quite a lot. Without any insurance, we might have to pay more for replacement of the windscreen.
