Cleaners Are Important
By Money Sick | November 25, 2007

This is Horizon Food Mall
I consider myself lucky to be living in Woodlands. Here, there are food courts which serve nice food — Banquets and Horizon at Causeway Point.
If we do not know the worst, we would not appreciate the best. For knowing what is bad, we get to know what is good. Before I had a chance to eat at Banquets, Horizon Food Mall was all I all at Causeway Point. After dining at Banquets, I had a choice of going to either Horizon or Banquets. I get to compare these food courts. Banquets has a better ambience and I had always like Banquets ever since the first day. I thought Horizon was nothing special. It was quite ‘messy’ with all the chairs and tables ‘all over the place’. I thought that the cleaners were rude when they just cleared the dishes without asking, and when the cleaners cleared away my food when I had not finished eating too.
However, today at KouFu, the foodcourt at West Mall, I had a change of my view. I got to think that I am lucky this time for having better food court at my neighbourhood.
You want to earn money, everybody want to earn money. But if these are not cleared, how do you earn money? Stall vendors ran out of spoons, forks, chopsticks, bowls and plates. Customers hate to see all this mess. Would it leave a good impression on first-time customers? I would certainly not come back to such a place when all the experience I have over there is bad, nothing good at all. If the food was good, perhaps that would do a bit of compromise. But that was not the case.

The jobs of cleaners are not to be belittled. Without them, this is what you get. Customers shaking their head as they walk around KouFu, the food court which claim this: Better Food, Better People, Better Life. But I do not feel any better staying any longer. The moment I stepped into this place, I felt my soles of my shoes were sticky. Dirt accumulate on the floor. Tissue papers, hairs, chopsticks, rubbish on the floor. The floor was wet, with spills. I did not suggest going there. I hate the place. This is my third time going. My first time going, I did not want to go back. My second time there, I was reluctant to go. My third time going, I would not want to go back again.

There were cleaners around, but I think the most suitable words to use is competent, sensible and hardworking cleaners are needed.

[...] These dumplings were smaller than what my mother made, but still better than none. So nice to eat dumplings made by own family members. Dumplings sold outside normally contains so much fatty meat. I don’t like to eat pork and won’t eat them at all (especially those sold from stalls). But I trust my sister. She doesn’t like pork too. But she told me now she eats pork already. These dumplings which she had made, contains pork, mushrooms and chestnuts. The pork/meat were soft and not fatty at all — very good. So satisfied with the dumpling. Without her, I won’t have ‘kou fu’. [...]
