GST Increase

By Money Sick | July 1, 2007

Today the GST ( Goods and Services Tax in Singapore ) increase started in Singapore. The GST is being increased from 5% to now 7%! I went shopping today. I went to NTUC supermarket to get some food and groceries. It does make a difference to our lives. As you know I am already Money Sick. Adding another 2% definitely make a lot of difference to people like me, poor family. If you ask how much $0.20 means to a millionaire, it would be nothing. 20cents are just peanuts to rich people. How rich is rich? This is an interesting subject. I shall deal with this topic some other time.

Back to 20cents. 20cents can be a lot of money to a school kids. Say you want to buy a lucky egg that cost you $1.00. However, you have only $0.80 in your wallet. I am sure some of you have encounter such scenario before. Sometimes you find money on the road and you belittle the dirty-looking 20cents on the road. Sometimes they are sparkling ones too. You would have appreciated the value of 20cents to be found on the street if this is the case you have. With only 80 cents, you could not buy any fortune egg at all. Nobody is going to lend you the money. Even if it does, you need to try your luck and you need to ask for it. To a beggar, who are starving, and thirsty, every cents and every dollar counts. Money is money to them. They are happy if you give them donation be it any amount. Beggars have no choice!

AT NTUC, I noticed the price tags were different from the normal. Obviously we need to pay more for the same thing that we used to buy now, an additional of 10-20cents more, for those items that I normally buy. Every drop makes an ocean. Every little bit counts. I am paying more money than usual. I am paying additional of about $5 for all the sundry items I bought at NTUC! Well, what is $5 means to you?? Like what I say, it all depends on your earning capabilities and your current financial position in order to know what MONEY really mean to you.

I am Money Sick. I am already infected with Monetobacillus. I have not found any medication that can cure me yet. But there are more Monetobacillus that is trying to infect me. Will my immunity be strong enough to combat this Money Germ?
